Figure 11 and 12. Pictured above are stitch bonds made with a small and large O.R. dimension tool. The function of the O.R. is to form the transition to the wire from the stitch bond, normally referred to as the heel. When the O.R. is too small, stress on the heel can result in a fracture or heel crack. Most face angle capillary designs have O.R. sizes that are as large or larger than the wire diameter to be bonded. For flat face capillary designs, the O.R. is typically two to four times the diameter of wire to be bonded.
