12. RIBBON WIRE WEDGE

Many applications require the use of Gold or Aluminum ribbon wire. There are two primary methods of attaching ribbon wire. One method involves welding the wire with a gap welder.

The other method is with a ribbon wire wedge. Ribbon wire wedges are available in conventional wire feed angles and deep access configurations.

Ribbon wire sizes range from 0.00025in./6m thick by 0.001in./25m wide to 0.001in./25m thick by 0.020in./508m wide.

The average wedge BL size is 0.0015in./38m to 0.0035in./89um. All ribbon tools are made with a BR size of 0.0003in./8m for good tailing.

IMPORTANT: Gold ribbon wire wedges normally are manufactured from Tungsten Carbide (WC). They are also available in cermet-tipped (BKCER) material, special-alloy carbide (AU), and titanium carbide-tipped  (TIC).
