4. BOND LENGTH AND FOOT LENGTH

The FL dimension is measured from the FR to the theoretical intersection of the back radius angle and the plane of the bond foot as shown above. Controlling the FL dimension prevents the individual FR, BL, and BR tolerances from accumulating and producing a too large or too small overall bond. The BL for a flat face wedge includes 25% of the BR, 25% of the FR, and the bond flat.

 The BL for the concave wedge includes 25% of the BR and the bond flat; the FR is not considered.
Typical bond lengths are 2-2 1/2 times the wire diameter. A BL of 0.0025in./64 is the most commonly requested BL for 0.00125in./32 diameter wire. Typical BL to bond pad size relationships are shown below.
